Coloured Pencils, Coloured Card Stock and Easy Blending | Alex Syberia Designs Lotus

Hello everyone! Bonnie here from Bonniecarollee Makes Cards. I am on a roll revisiting mediums that I haven’t used for long while. Last week I dug out the alcohol inks and a few days ago I worked on this beauty, Alex Syberia Designs’ Lotus, using coloured pencils. I have a little tip that makes short work of the blending!

I began by printing this gorgeous image on soft pink card stock. The panel was cut to 4” by 5 1/4” with a stitched rectangle die. The colouring was done with Faber Castell Polychromos coloured pencils:
Flower Petals - Red Violet, Pink Madder Lake, White Flower Centres - Cadmium Yellow, Light Yellow
Stems & Sepals - Olive Green, Green Opaque, Earth Green Yellowish, Cadmium Yellow

The colour was applied in small circular motions working petal by petal. The first layer of colour mapped out the shadow and highlight areas. With the second, and sometimes a third application, one colour was overlapped with the next to create a blend. Mineral spirits were applied with a paper stump to complete the blending.

The panel was spattered using a fan brush to apply white gouache that was watered down slightly. The sentiment, Simon Says Stamp’s Handlettered Happy Birthday, was adhered to the card.
The panel was mounted on black card stock measuring 4 1/8” by 5 3/8” and then on to an A2 sized card base. The card was embellished with clear iridescent confetti finished off with Nuvo Crystal Drops Morning Dew.
